Afzal’s Story: Redeemed by His Word

Afzal’s Story: Redeemed by His Word

In Persian-speaking communities, the sharing of the New Testament often becomes the catalyst for miraculous transformations. Afzal’s testimony reveals how Scripture and prayer can bring healing even in the most desperate circumstances.

Facing a Crisis

Afzal, a believer of four years, had already witnessed God’s faithfulness when, after much prayer, he received a few copies of the New Testament from a partner of Frontlines. He kept them secretly hidden in his room, believing God would bring about the right circumstances for him to share these with someone in need.
At the moment, his family was facing overwhelming trials: his brother-in-law had suffered a heart attack three years ago, leaving him with physical limitations. Two months ago, they lost their son in a traffic accident, and now they had more bad news to overcome.
His sister, Gulnaz, was to undergo surgery. Three days before surgery, doctors discovered that she had malignant cancer with little chance of survival. The family was devastated, but Afzal was the only one who secretly sought the Lord at this time.

God’s Word Brings Healing

Rather than offering empty comfort, Afzal recognized this crisis as an opportunity from the Lord to share about the love of Christ. He shared the miraculous stories from the New Testament—accounts of Jesus healing the sick, raising the dead, and demonstrating His authority over all suffering. He shared about God’s personal intervention in his own life since receiving his New Testament. Most importantly, Afzal took courage and gave Gulnaz her own New Testament, encouraging her to read and discover for herself God’s goodness and redeeming power.

Scripture Leads to Salvation

As Gulnaz read the New Testament, she felt a stirring in her heart. The words of Jesus, the promises of healing, and the testimonies of God’s power spoke directly to her. Through reading Scripture, she encountered the living Christ who offered hope beyond her medical prognosis.
On the morning of her surgery, Gulnaz called and spoke with Afzal. There was a new joy in her voice that he had never heard before. God’s word had brought about a real change. Before entering the operating room, she repented and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior.

Prayer and Divine Healing

The power of prayer became evident immediately. Gulnaz underwent surgery with the prayers of faith covering her, and the results exceeded all medical expectations. Today she is well and thankful to the Lord for bringing her out of darkness and illness to a restored and redeemed life.

The Continuing Ministry

Afzal’s testimony demonstrates the vital importance of New Testament distribution to unreached communities in the Persian Speaking World. Unlike our limited thinking, God’s word reaches deep into the hearts of people who are open to receiving Him as their Lord and Savior.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for complete healing and spiritual growth for Gulnaz. Thank God for her miraculous recovery and pray that her new faith will flourish as she continues reading God’s Word, becoming a powerful testimony where God allows her to bear witness.
  • Pray for continued New Testament distribution. May the Lord multiply the impact of New Testaments being distributed to Persian-speaking families, that many more like Gulnaz would encounter Christ through Scripture and experience His healing power.
  • Pray for Afzal’s witness. May the miraculous healing of Gulnaz open her husband’s heart to the Gospel, and that Afzal would continue to be used mightily by God to share Christ with others who desperately need salvation.
